Nerathis Vell was taught that every road could be solved if one found the correct equation. Mireya Fen learned that forests rarely offer the same road twice. They met at a broken meridian gate where Nerathis’s calculations had opened six doors and none of them led forward. Mireya listened to the roots, watched a moth cross the moss, and pointed to the only arch that had not moved.
